Dai An Apartment
Dai An Apartment is the renovation of an old corner house in Vung Tau into a rental apartment building, designed by H2 and built by H+ Studio. The building has a ground floor, two upper floors and a garret, holding nine studios and apartments: a garage, reception and one studio on the ground floor; three studios with private bathrooms on each of the two upper floors; and two larger apartments with a laundry area under the roof.
The building is defined by its colourful room volumes, in pink, jade and blue, shaped like small pitched-roof houses and rotated at different angles across the facade. These little houses give the facade its rhythm while hiding the old concrete columns of the original building. The base is clad in rust-painted steel plate, and neutral grey walls set off the bold colours, with plants and hanging greenery spilling over every floor.
To keep the renovation quick and adaptable, the building uses a steel frame, cement board, steel walls and glass: light materials that can easily change with future needs. Inside, the apartments make use of their height with mezzanines and slender steel stairs, and the jade-painted "little houses" become cosy sleeping nooks within the rooms. Timber furniture and floors, upholstered sofas with colourful cushions and solid-wood tables make each unit feel like home.
On the top floor, the traditional tiled roof and its timber trusses are kept and left exposed, sheltering two generous apartments that open onto hanging gardens and views towards the city of Vung Tau.
Dai An Apartment was a Finalist in the Creative Colour Awards 2023.
The building has a total floor area of 300 m².
